Thursday Sports Update

In the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, Wisconsin outscored Wake Forest 42-28.. After the game the Badgers Graham Mertz was dancing with the Mayo Bowl trophy when he dropped the football-shaped piece of Lenox crystal on top and it shattered on the locker room floor. “No matter what age boys will be boys”

Number-six Oklahoma rushed for 435 yards as it smashed seventh-ranked Florida 55-20 in the Cotton Bowl in Texas.  Oklahoma finishes the season 9-and-2.  The Gators finish the year 8-and-4.

 

More College Bowl action this Holiday Weekend.

Today’s Bowl Schedule

Mississippi State and No. 22 Tulsa will play in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Arizona Bowl  will be a showdown of conference champions San Jose State of the Mountain West and Ball State of the Mid-American. 

West Virginia will face  Army in the Liberty Bowl in Tennessee.

 

On New Year’s Day

The College Football Playoffs will begin with the semi-final round that has  Top-ranked Alabama facing number 4 Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl which will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas due to the Pandemic.

And number. 2 Clemson will play 3rd ranked Ohio State at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. The winners will compete in the national championship game on  January 11th in Miami.

 

Other Bowl games on New Year’s Day

6th ranked Cincinnati Bearcats take on the 11th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

No. 15 Northwestern will meet Auburn in the Citrus Bowl. 

 

On Saturday 

North Carolina State will face Kentucky in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville Florida.

At the Outback Bowl, Ole Miss takes on Indiana at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay.

The Fiesta Bowl in Arizona will feature the 12th ranked  Iowa State and Number 25  Oregon.

And 5th ranked Texas A&M will battle  North Carolina at the Orange Bowl in Miami.

 

There will also be college basketball on Saturday.

The Fighting Illini will host Purdue,  The NIU Huskies are at home to take on Bowling Green and Notre Dame is on the road at Pitt. The Irish lost last night to Virginia 66-57.

Over in the NBA, The Chicago Bulls will be busy this holiday weekend. Tonight they face the Wizards in D.C. On Friday they travel to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks. On Saturday and  Sunday they play hosts to the Pacers and Mavericks at the United Center.

 

The Chicago Bears will face off with the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field in the regular-season finale. Both teams are going into Sunday’s  game with a lot to play for in terms of playoff positioning. The Packers can clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a win over the Bears or a loss by the Seahawks to the 49ers. The Bears can clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Packers or a loss by the  Cardinals to the Rams.
