Part of the Oglesby electric rate study is done. City Commissioner Jason Curran thinks some businesses should get a rate cut. He says the city’s profit margin in the small commercial category is 15.5%. The consultant recommends 12 to 20 percent. So he’d cut the rate by 15%.
Curran says more business could get rate cuts after more smart meters are put in and discounts can be given based on use during off-peak hours. Curran says when the rest of the study is done, he hopes to recommend a residential rate cut too.
