New state’s attorney organizing office differently

LaSalle County State’s Attorney Todd Martin is organizing his department a little differently than past prosecutors. Instead of one first assistant, he has two deputy chiefs. One’s in charge of violent crimes and the other is handling drug cases.

Martin asked the county board yesterday to restore a salary line for one of the prosecutors. He says previous State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly eliminated it, apparently intending to pay for the salary from a grant. But the county hasn’t received the grant, the work is still there, and there’s a prosecutor doing it who needs to be paid.

It still has to go to the Salary and Labor Committee. The intended salary is $103,000.
