Illinois Valley Community College has cancelled spring 2021 sports. Those are the volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball seasons. President Jerry Corcoran says it was a tough call, but it’s one the administration felt was the right one for the safety of student athletes, coaches, and support staff.

Meanwhile, local high schools may soon resume competition in some sports. Low risk sports including badminton, boys swimming and diving, cheerleading, dance, boys and girls bowling, and girls gymnastics can go ahead. The Illinois High School Association says it will determine competition dates soon, but practice can begin. The IHSA also says non-contact team practice can begin for basketball, but competition is still up in the air.
