Trial scheduled for man accused of shooting at Oglesby police

An April trial date has been set for the man accused of shooting at two Oglesby police officers on December 29. Thirty-five year old Peter D. Bergsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Bergsma allegedly fired at police who were checking out why the RV he was in was parked in the Illinois Valley Community College parking lot. Police shot back, wounding him in the head, and then found him east of the campus. The officers themselves weren’t hurt.

A public defender will represent Bergsma.
