Hearing scheduled on remainder of LaSalle County Republican Party election contest

The LaSalle County Clerk’s Office is asking a judge to dismiss what’s left of the LaSalle County Republican Party’s complaint about how election results were handled. Grundy County Judge Scott Belt this morning scheduled a hearing for the afternoon of Wednesday, February 3.

The party claims there are uncounted votes that could put Karen Donnelly ahead in the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s race. Democrat Todd Martin took office on December 1 as the election winner. The Republican Donnelly has meanwhile begun working as a prosecutor in Grundy County. She has also applied for an at-large judge’s position in the judicial circuit that is Grundy, LaSalle, and Bureau counties.

The part of the case concerning whether Republican Travis Breeden should replace Democrat Lance Yednock in the Illinois House was dismissed earlier this month. Judge Scott Belt found that LaSalle County Republican Party Chairman Larry Smith lives outside the Illinois House 76th District and therefore couldn’t be a plaintiff in that part of the case.
