Cong. Kinzinger says the Republican Party has changed and he wants to change it back

Cong. Adam Kinzinger’s answer to claims that he’s not a real Republican is that the Republican Party isn’t what it used to be. In an online video, Kinzinger says the party’s unapologetic stand for freedom and the flag inspired him to serve his country and millions of others to join the party. But he says instead of being the party of hope, it’s become a party of darkness, division, and conspiracy theories.

He explained Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press, he feels the party has no moral authority anymore after the attack on the Capitol last month. He says he’s still a conservative, but it’s hard to advocate for the view with the things people associate it with. The movement Kinzinger’s is launching is called Country 1st. Its web site is here. The new web site and links to Country 1st on social media came out over the weekend–the same weekend Republicans rallied in Ottawa’s Washington Park to declare that Kinzinger doesn’t represent them.
