Tonight on 1430 WCMY the Marquette Lady Crusaders will play Midland at Bader Gym.  Game time at 7pm with Mason Lucas and Issac Missel giving you the play by play here on 1430 WCMY and streaming on 1430 WCMY DOT COM.   

 

Other girls games tonight

Seneca travels to face Roanoke Benson.  St Bede will host Kewanee and The Lady Bulldogs will host Coal City in Streator.

 

Tonight in boys basketball 

The Marquette Crusaders will travel to Serena to take on The Huskers.     

 

Tomorrow’s LP boys varsity game with Morris in Peru has been cancelled due to possible COVID issue from the Morris and Dwight game on Friday.

 

Over the weekend on 1430 WCMY, The Marquette Crusaders dominated in their home opener against the Seneca Irish 62-41 on Saturday. Lucas Hoffman led the Crusaders with 21 points. Nick Melvin added 16 points for the victory.

The JV Crusaders held on to defeat Seneca  39-38 at Bader Gym. Tom Durdan led Marquette with 18 points.

 

Ottawa dominated the Serena Huskers 52-24 at Kingman Gym on Saturday.

  • Anthony Cooper led the Pirates with 14 points. Luke Cushing added eight points and a team-best five rebounds.
  • The last time these schools met was back in 1965.

 

The JV boys also defeated Serena 49-32. 

Conner Price led Ottawa with 14 points and five rebounds 

 

The Streator Varsity Bulldogs home opener was cancelled due to COVID related issues with the Morris Boys Varsity program.

 

But the Streator JV boys did play and won a classic against Morris in  double overtime 56-54 at The Pops Dale Gymnasium. 

  • The Bulldogs Christian Benning led  the team to victory with 31 points.

 

Saturday in girls Basketball                        

The Lady Crusaders lost on the road to Morris 25-22.

  • Josie Eager led led  Marquette with eight points.
  •  Molly Snook and Lily Craig each had six points in the loss.

 

The JV  girls also fell to Morris 27- 20

  • Lindsey Kaufmann tossed in nine points for Marquette in the loss. 

 

AND The Serena Lady Huskers won at home over Somonauk 48-39

 

In College Basketball 

Illinois secured a big conference win with a 75-60 victory over Wisconsin on Saturday. 

 

Northwestern dropped its ninth straight game with a 75-70 loss on Saturday at Purdue.  

 

The ISU Redbirds lost both games this past weekend to 74-67 and 72-62 on Sunday. 

 

The NIU Huskies’ game against Toledo on Tuesday night is being postponed due to COVID-19.  Northern Illinois has now had seven games canceled this season because of COVID-19.  The Huskies are next scheduled to play on February 13th at Kent State.

 

The Chicago Bulls will go for another win tonight when they host the Washington Wizards.  

 

The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Dallas Stars in overtime 2-1. The Blackhawks will take on the Stars again in Dallas on Tuesday.

 

Over in the PGA

Brooks Koepka  won the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale Arizona.  

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl 55.  It’s the second title in The Bucs franchise history.  The Buccaneers became the first team in history to win a Super Bowl in their own stadium. Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes, including two to Rob Gronkowski, to earn his fifth Super Bowl MVP honor.
