Wednesday Local Sports Update

Last night on 1430 WCMY you heard the Ottawa Pirates defeat the Sandwich Indians 46-30 at Kingman Gym. Anthony Cooper led Ottawa with 16 points. Luke Cushing had 10 and Levi Shoulders added 9 points in the victory. Next for the Pirates they hit the road to face Sycamore on Friday.

The JV boys also got a win over Sandwich 45-30

  • Conner Price had 14 points for Ottawa

Elsewhere in boys basketball on a Tuesday night.

Marquette manhandled the Low Point- Washburn team at Bader gym 61-25

  • Beau Ewers led the Crusaders  with 12 points, Luke Couch and Victor Mullen each had 10 in the Victory.

 

Streator won at home beating Coal City 43-36

  • Jack Haynes scored a game-high 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Bulldogs

The Seneca Irish lost on the road to Midland 61-56

The St Bede Bruins lost at home to Kewanee 50-38

 

Last night in the 102nd annual Little Ten Conference Boys tournament.

  • LaMoille defeated Leland 50-30 and will play Somonauk tonight.
  • Hiawatha outscored Depue 58-45 and will face Indian Creek tonight in the next round

Also tonight in the LTC tournament

Earlville will host Serena and Newark travels to Hinckley-Big Rock

For the girls

The Lady Pirates fought hard but came up short against Sandwich 29-24

  • Ella Marvel scored 7 points for Ottawa

The Lady Huskers of Serena defeated Hinckley-Big Rock 48-28. 

  • Taylor Staton led Serena with 15 points.

 

In Bowling

The Streator bowling teams both defeated Mendota in their Matches

  • For the girls Anna Jaworski led the Lady Bulldogs 
  • For the Boys, Brady Grabowski, Ashton Kling and Adam Jakupcak JAKE-UP-CHAK were the high rollers for Streator

 

In college Basketball

Notre Dame traveled to Durham North Carolina to beat Duke 93-89. The Fighting Irish had lost seven straight games to The Blue Devils, 

 

Tonight Northwestern will play Indiana at the Welsh-Ryan Arena.

 

The Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament is being moved from Chicago to Indianapolis.  The decision to relocate the tournament was mainly due to health and safety reasons. 

 

Northwestern football is returning to Wrigley Field this fall.  The Wildcats host Purdue November 20th in the Wildcats Classic at the Friendly Confines.  Northwestern returns to the ballpark for the first time since November of 2010, when they fell to the Illini. 

 

Pius Suter scored in overtime to give the Blackhawks a 2-1 win against the Dallas Stars at The American Airlines Center. Kevin Lankinen made 34 saves for Chicago in the win. The Hawks return home for  a two-game homestand against the Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow night.

 

The Chicago Bulls will host the Pelicans tonight. 

 

NFL longtime head coach Marty Schottenheimer passed away Monday at the age of 77.  Schottenheimer coached 21 seasons in the NFL with the Browns, Chiefs, Washington and Chargers.
