Monday Local Sports Update

Also on the schedule tonight Earville will travel to face Hinckley Big-Rock 

 

WCMY broadcasted a double header of high school basketball on saturday. In game one the Marquette Crusaders lost a tough one at home to Midland 61-50.

  • Nick Melvin Led the Crusaders with 15 points 
  • Victor Mullen added 12 more in the loss.

 

 Game two we heard the Ottawa Pirates dominate the Plano Reapers at Kingman Gym 72-57.

  • Senior Anthony Cooper scored a career high 32 points for the Pirates. 
  • The JV squad lost to Plano 48-45

 

Indian Creek won the 102nd Little Ten Conference Tournament and took home the Al Stegman Championship Trophy for the second straight year with an 83-73 win over Somonauk.  Newark beat Serena 40-30 to take 3rd place honors,

 

It was a Victory on senior night for the L-P Cavaliers as they defeated Sycamore 64-50 in Peru.

  • Drake Weber was the leading scorer for L-P with 25 points.

 

The Seneca Fighting Irish got a Tri-County Conference victory over the Woodland Warriors 50-30. 

 

Over the weekend the Ottawa Lady Pirates earned a road win against Plano 35-20.

 

Girls Basketball scheduled for tonight 

The Lady Crusaders travel to face Roanoke-Benson.  The Lady Irish of Seneca will host Henry and The St Bede Lady Bruins compete on their home court against Bureau Valley.

 

The Ottawa Dolphins swim team finished 2nd out of 5 teams in their 2nd meet of the season  at the YMCA in Sycamore. The Ottawa Dolphins had 38 swimmers that participated

In College Basketball

The  NIU Huskies lost at Kent State 80-58

 

Northwestern lost on the road to Rutgers 64-50  The Wildcats have now lost 11 games in a row.

 

Illinois State split their two game series with Southern Illinois at the Redbird Arena. On Saturday ISU won 80-55 and Sunday lost to the Salukis 59-49. The Redbirds are 6-15 so far this season.

 

Notre Dame defeated the Miami Hurricanes  71-61. The Fighting Irish are 9-10 on the season.

 

The Bulls play on the road against the Indiana Pacers tonight.  Chicago fell 125-106 to the Clippers Saturday, slipping to 10-and-15. 

 

 The Blackhawks are in the Motor City to play the Red Wings tonight.  Chicago earned a comeback, 3-2 overtime victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. 

 

Jake Arrieta is reuniting with the Cubs.  The right-hander has reportedly agreed to a one-year-contract worth six-million-dollars .  The 34-year-old helped the Cubs win the World Series in 2016 before spending the last three seasons with the Phillies. 

 

Daniel Berger won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am in California. 

 

Michael McDowell won the NASCAR 2021 Daytona 500.
