Tuesday Local Sports Update

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we will not be able to broadcast tonight’s Marquette boys basketball game on 1430 WCMY at 7 pm tonight.

 

Other boys varsity scheduled for tonight

Seneca travels to Roanoke-Benson, Streator will be on their home court to face Wilmington and St Bede will host Bureau Valley.

 

In girls basketball tonight 

Earlville is at home to take on Hiawatha and the Lady Bulldogs of Streator hit the road to face Wilmington.

 

Due to the bad weather, last night’s high school basketball games were postponed.

There was one game in the area yesterday, 

In girls, varsity basketball Sandwich defeated Somonauk 40-20

 

College Basketball action tonight. 

The 5th ranked Illini carries a five-game winning streak into tonight’s home game against Northwestern.  The Wildcats have lost eleven straight.

 

The NIU Huskies will look for a road win at Akron.

 

NHL

Dominik Kubalik scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, in the Blackhawks 3-2 victory over the Red Wings in Detroit.  The Hawks have won five of six.  They face the Red Wings again tomorrow night

 

 NBA

Zach LaVine scored a game-high 30 points as the Bulls defeated the Pacers 120-112 in overtime on the road.   Chicago visits the Hornets tomorrow night. 

 

 The NBA is finding a way to incorporate all of its All-Star Weekend events into one day.  The league will have its annual three-point contest and skills challenge before the NBA All-Star Game on March 7th.  The game is set to be played in Atlanta.

 

 Tennis

Serena Williams has returned to the Australian Open semifinals for the first time since she won the tournament in 2017. Williams is now set up for a showdown with Naomi Osaka for a spot in the final. 

 

NFL

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys will clash in the Hall of Fame Game Thursday, August 5th in Canton, Ohio to kick off the NFL preseason. The two teams were to have met in last year’s Hall of Fame Game, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
