Richard “Ziggy” Valdez, 61

Richard “Ziggy” G. Valdez, 61, of Ottawa passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria after a long battle with diabetes.

A memorial mass will be held at a later date. He will be buried at St. Columba Cemetery. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation rites.

Ziggy was born August 31, 1959 in Ottawa to Ernesto “Ernie” and Hortencia “Tencha” (Garza) Valdez. He was a member of St. Columba Church, Sons of the American Legion, and the VFW Auxiliary. He loved riding his bike and golfing, and he was a life-long fan of the Chicago Bears and White Sox. Ziggy always looked forward to going out for breakfast with his buddies.

He is survived by his siblings, Tommy (Becky) Valdez of Mendota, Rudy Valdez of Ottawa, Bobby (Pamela) Valdez of Ottawa, and Elsa (Steve) Martuzzo of Pontiac; and tons of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Beatrice, Benito, Jimmy, Freddy, David, and his twin brother, Ruben.
