Senator Dick Durbin says attorney general nominee Merrick Garland will have the job of restoring independence and integrity to the Justice Department.
Durbin chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee. He says he’s confident that Garland can restore the American people’s faith in the attorney general’s office. Garland is a federal appeals judge.
Pres. Biden nominated him to the attorney general’s job, five years after Pres. Obama nominated him to be a Supreme Court justice. Senate Republicans never allowed a hearing for that nomination.
