LaSalle County courts to test video link to let inmates attend virtually

The LaSalle County courts will test a video link with the county jail. Inmates who can have their court hearings over the video link can stay at the jail without being taken into the courtroom.

In some cases, that means a lot less work for the corrections officers who would escort them through passages from the jail into the courthouse on Etna Rd. Circuit Clerk Greg Vaccaro says inmates with civil court cases won’t always have to be transported to the downtown Ottawa courthouse.

Vaccaro told the LaSalle County Board Law and Justice Committee this week, the video link will be tested during the next few weeks. Some hearings do require in-person attendance, so the video can’t be used in every case.
