1959 – 2021
Gary Thurwanger, 61, of Oglesby, passed away Sunday February 28, 2021 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.
Gary was born on December 9, 1959 to LeRoy and Mary (Faber) Thurwanger. He was a union electrician with IBEW Local 176 and served in the U.S. Army stationed in Alaska. He married Donna Sinning on June 29, 1985 at St. Mary’s Church in Utica. Gary was born and raised in a family-oriented household that brought humor to all occasions. He shared these values with his loving wife, their two children, and three grandchildren. He was an outdoorsman and loved kayaking, hiking, camping, and riding his motorcycle.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Thurwanger of Oglesby; his mother, Mary Thurwanger of Ottawa; two children, Rachael (Chad) Bradley of Streator; Nicole (Dustin Von Ruden) Thurwanger of Anchorage, AK; three grandchildren, Brendan, Brittan, and Brayden Bradley and one on the way; a brother, David Thurwanger of Wisconsin; four sisters, Janet Cetwinski of Missouri, Cathy Fultz of Ottawa, Mary Ann (Charlie) Van Grevenhof of Morris, and Donna (Rob) Walton of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his father.
