Monday Local Sports Update

Tune in tonight for high school basketball when the Ottawa Pirates celebrate senior night by taking on Sycamore at the Historic Kingman Gym. Game time at 7pm. Hear all the play by play action on 1430 AM WCMY and streaming online at 1430 WCMY DOT COM.

Other games scheduled for varsity boys basketball.

L-P  will host Rochelle, Earlville will defend  their court against Newark and Serena will face Leland.

 

Over the weekend.

Marqutte was outscored at Roanoke-Benson 67-59

Lucas Hoffman scored 19 points and Nick Melvin added 11 in the Crusaders loss.

 

 Seneca lost on the road to Putnam County, 54-45

 Zach Pfeifer and Noah Quigley both led the Irish with 12 points and three assists 

 

 Streator came up short in the overtime loss at Bloomington Central Catholic. 60-58

A.J. Benning led the Bulldogs with 15 points, both Jack Haynes and Christian Benning scored 11 points.

 

St. Bede traveled to Riverdale and lost 69-55.

 

Tonight in Girls Basketball

Ottawa travels to  Sycamore, L-P is at Rochelle, Seneca will play host to Putnam County and Streator is home to face Lisle.

 

Over the weekend Streator lost on the road to Seneca 45-25

  • Kennedy Hartwig had 15 points and Brooklyn Giertz added 13 more for the Lady Irish. 
  • Natalie Haynes led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points.

 

The L-P Lady Cavaliers were winners at Morris 38-22

In Competitive Dance

The Seneca Lady Irish in Class 1A and the Ottawa Lady Pirates in Class 2A  move on to the IHSA State finals. The teams submitted videos of their routines due to the pandemic to the virtual Washington Sectional. 

 

College Basketball

5th ranked Illinois defeated number 24 Wisconsin 74-69 on Saturday to complete the season sweep of the Badgers. The Illini is set to do battle with third-ranked Michigan tomorrow night in Ann Arbor.

 

ISU was swept this weekend by Northern Iowa losing 70-56 on Friday and losing in double overtime on Sunday 94-87.

 

NIU lost their 6th in a row by losing to Eastern Michigan 91-57 

 

Notre Dame  lost on the road to Boston College 94-90.

 

College Football results this weekend 

The SIU Salukis defeated North Dakota State 38-14

Illinois State lost to South Dakota 27-20

Western Illinois lost to Missouri State  30-24

Eastern Illinois took a beating from Southeast Missouri State 47-7.

 

Patrick Kane scored his 400th career goal in the Blackhawks’ 7-2 victory over the Red Wings at the United Center. The Blackhawks open a three-game home set against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

 

The White Sox fell 7-2 to the Brewers in their Cactus League opener. Adam Engel drove in both runs for the  pale hose with a two-run homer in the first. The Sox visit the Angels today.

 

The Cubs open Cactus League play today  and will visit the Padres.  Kyle Hendricks gets the start for The North-Siders. 

 

Last night’s game between the Bulls and Raptors was postponed due COVID-19 issues within the Toronto franchise. The Bulls host the Nuggets tonight.

 

Over in the PGA Collin Morikawa won the WGC – Workday Championship in Bradenton, Florida.  

 

In NASCAR, William Byron won the Dixie Vodka 400
