Over the weekend in high school football

The Marquette Crusaders celebrated Homecoming on Friday by dominating Stark County 37-8

  •  Shane Reynolds with a game-best 111 yards on just six carries, TD

 

The Streator Bulldogs lost at home from Peotone 49-13

  • Running back Cade Stevens had 11 carries for 78 yards rushing and a touchdown for Streator

 

Seneca Fighting Irish were outscored on the road by Clifton 62-38

  • Running back Chase Hauch had 108 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Irish.

 

The Bruins of St Bede shut out Monmouth  27-0 

  • Quarterback Damrell finished 8-of-12 for 178 yards and two touchdowns for the Bruins.

 

And The Morris Redskins were at home and defeated Plano 35-12

 

On Saturday the Ottawa Pirates lost at home to Sycamore 27-7

  • The lone score for the Pirates was a 14-yard scoring run from Bryant Schomas with freshman kicker Cam Loomis adding the extra point.

 

The L-P Cavaliers  dominated at home beating Rochelle 29-0

  • The Cavaliers quarterback Tyler Hartman and fullback Matt Carrico combined for 199 rushing  yards and three touchdowns.

 

Ottawa Varsity Girls volleyball defeated Sycamore at Kingman Gym.

The Lady Pirates were led by Piper Nanouski with 10 kills, 2 aces and 4 digs,  Lily Miller had 16 assists, 5 aces, 3 kills and 13 digs,  Ryleigh Stevenson added 12 kills, 5 aces and Marissa Burgwald finished with 13 digs and 2 aces.

 

NCAA

The Elite Eight round for the men’s NCAA Tournament begins today with 12th-seeded Oregon State squaring off with second-seeded Houston and Top-seeded Baylor will then battle third-seeded Arkansas.

 

Memphis defeated Mississippi State 77-64 in the Men’s NIT basketball championship in Frisco, Texas. 

 

MLB

Matt Reynolds’ two-run double highlighted a six-run eighth inning in the White Sox 7-4 victory over the D-Backs at Camelback Ranch That you heard here on 1430 WCMY.  The Sox close out spring training tomorrow at the Rockies. 

 

The Cubs were defeated 12-8 by the Rangers at Surprise Stadium.  James Norwood got the loss out of the pen.  Joc Pederson homered for the North-siders.  The Cubs wrap up spring training today by hosting the D-Backs. 

 

The Cardinals were tied 3-3 before giving up eight runs in the bottom of the 8th in an 11-3 defeat to the Nationals in West Palm Beach. John Nogowski and Yadier Molina drove in runs for The Cards who will host the Mets in their final spring training game today.

 

NHL

The Blackhawks rallied late as Alex DeBrincat scored twice in a two-minute span in the third but the Predators took a 3-2 victory at the United Center. The Hawks open a two-game home set against the Hurricanes tomorrow night.   

 

NBA

The Chicago Bulls visit the Warriors tonight.  The Bulls fell 120-104 to the Spurs on Saturday.  Nikola Vucevic [[ KNEE-coal-uh VOOCH-uh-vitch ]] posted 21 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in his Bulls debut.  

 

 

The first NASCAR Cup Series race on dirt in over 50 years was rained out yesterday at Bristol Tennessee and will try again today.
