Last night there was Junior Varsity Football

The Ottawa Corsairs defeated Sycamore 14-6 at King Field.

  • Ottawa touchdowns included a 1-yard run by Dillan Quatrano and a 68-yard punt return by Packston Miller.

The Marquette Crusaders outscored Stark County 20-10.

 

 

In girls volleyball

Ottawa traveled to Mendota and lost to the Spikers 25-16, 25-15 

  • For the Lady Pirates, Piper Nanouski had nine kills and seven digs, Lily Miller contributed 13 assists and 12 digs, and Ryleigh Stevenson added three kills and a pair of aces.
  • The Ottawa JV team also lost to Mendota

 

Marquette lost to Woodland at Bader gym 25-19 25-20

  • Addie McConnaughhay led the Lady Crusaders with three aces, seven kills and 11 digs.

 

Morris won in three sets over Newark, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23

 

 

In the men’s NCAA Tournament two teams made it to the Final Four.  Second-seed Houston eliminated 12-seed Oregon State 67-61 to book its first trip to the Final Four since 1984.  Top-seed Baylor fended off three-seed Arkansas 81-72.  The Bears are going to the Final Four for the first time since 1950.  Tonight, top-seed Michigan faces 11-seed UCLA and top-seed Gonzaga takes on six-seed USC.

 

MLB

The White Sox close out spring training at the Rockies today.  Dylan Cease gets the start for the South-Siders against Colorado’s Austin Gomber.  The Sox open the season Thursday in Anaheim Catch the  opener right here on 1430AM WCMY.

The White Sox released catcher Jonathan Lucroy and signed third baseman Jake Lamb. The 30-year-old Lamb was an All-Star in 2017 and spent this spring with the Atlanta Braves before being released Saturday.   

 

The Cubs wrapped up spring training with a 7-1 victory over the D-Backs at Sloan Park.  Nico Hoerner drilled a three-run homer and Willson Contreras hit a solo shot for the North-Siders.  Zach Davies got the win after allowing one run over three and a third.  The Cubs host the Pirates Thursday in the regular season opener.

 

Nolan Arenado hit his first home run as a Cardinal as St. Louis tied the Mets 3-3 in the final game of spring training in Jupiter, Florida.  Edmundo Sosa also went deep for the Cards.  The Redbirds open the regular season on Thursday in Cincinnati

 

NBA

Stephen Curry scored a game-high 32 points as the Warriors beat the Bulls 116-102 in San Francisco.  Nikola Vucevic posted 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the Bulls who will  visit the Phoenix Suns tomorrow night.

 

NHL

 The Blackhawks open a two-game home set against the Carolina Hurricanes tonight.  The Hawks fell 3-2 to the Panthers on Sunday and have lost six of their last eight. 

 

Over in NASCAR,  Joey Logano held off the field to win the Food City Dirt Race at Bristol Tennessee. Bad weather  pushed back the race from Sunday.
