Ottawa’s YMCA organization is getting a half million dollar donation from the Cora J. Pope Trust for the new Y building still being designed. John Walker from the trust’s board says the trust will get to promote its mission in the Cora J. Pope Presbyterian Commons.

The trust offers grants to help older people continue living in their homes. The trust’s mission has adapted to changing times. The Cora J. Pope home used to provide rooms for elderly women to live in when they couldn’t be on their own but also couldn’t afford hired help. Now, it offers up to $2,500 per year per person for things that help a man or woman age 55 or up continue living with comfort and dignity in his or her own home.
