Friday Local Sports Update

Tune in tonight for a double bill of high school football. The Ottawa Pirates travel to face their conference rival the LP Cavaliers at Howard Fellows Stadium. Kickoff is at 6pm with Sean Frey giving you all the Play by Play action on 95.3 JACK FM  

On 1430 WCMY The Marquette Crusaders will host Ridgewood at Gould Field.  Kickoff is at 7pm with Isaac Missel on the play by play broadcast here at 1430 WCMY

 

Other football games schedule for tonight

The Streator Bulldogs travel to Manteno, The Seneca Fighting Irish will host Momence,  Morris takes on  Sycamore, Coal City is at Wilmington and Kaneland will do battle with Plano.

On Saturday afternoon  the Bruins of St Bede hit the road to face  Newman Catholic.

 

In girls volleyball, Marquette lost to Roanoke Benson in 2 sets.

Leading the Lady Crusaders were Lindsey Kaufmann with 15 digs and 4 kills. Addie McConnaughhay finished with 7 kills and added 8 digs. and Kaylee Killelea led the offense with 20 assists. 

 

Seneca defeated Woodland in two straight sets

For the lady Irish, Madison Bromberek had 11 kills, Addie Bland added four kills and  Brooklyn Giertz finished with 20 assists 

 

The Ottawa Pirates soccer team won at home over Serena on senior night 3-1.

 

Lance Lynn tossed a five-hit complete game shutout as the White Sox defeated the Royals 6-0 in their home opener at Guaranteed Rate Field. Yoán Moncada and Yermín Mercedes each homered in the first for the South-Siders.  The Sox and Royals continue their series tomorrow.

 

Javy Baez belted a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning as the Cubs doubled up the Pirates 4-2 in Pittsburgh.  Anthony Rizzo added a solo shot in the eighth, while Kris Bryant’s second homer of the season got the scoring going in the first for the North-siders.  Jake Arrieta tossed six innings of two-run ball for his second win.  The series continues this weekend. 

 

Nolan Arenado’ eighth-inning two-run homer lifted the Cardinals to a 3-1 home opening win over the Brewers. The series continues on Saturday. 

 

Nikola Vucevic and Zach LaVine both scored 22 points in the Bulls 122-113 win over the Raptors in Tampa. The Bulls visit the Atlanta Hawks tonight.

 

The Blackhawks closed out their two-game set with the Stars with a 5-1 loss at the United Center.  Dominik Kubalik scored for the Hawks and Kevin Lankinen made 29 saves. The Blackhawks  open a five-game road trip tomorrow night in Columbus against the Blue Jackets. 

 Over in the PGA,  Justin Rose leads after the first round of The Masters in Augusta. 

And this weekend is The WWE’s Wrestlemania 37, the Superbowl of Professional Wrestling  will take place at Raymond James Stadium, the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The event is expected to have 25,000 fans in attendance.
