There are some new bird houses at Matthiessen State Park, courtesy of some Ladd Grade School students’ efforts. The students say the bird houses are the right size for blue jays. William Tapscott helped plant things that should be growing in the area. He dug a hole for a stiff tickseed, which will produce a yellow flower that looks a lot like a daisy.

Colton Crowther and his friends felt good participating in Earth Day in the Parks.

Students and other volunteers are helping with Earth Day in the Parks events at 17 state parks across Illinois this month and next.
