As the pandemic was going on last year and as people wanted to get outside, boat sales went up.
And as the boating season in nearly upon us the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is promoting boating safety.
DNR Deputy Director Rachel Torbert says that as the spike in interest in boats continues there are a lot of safety measures to take for those who buy one.
Torbert says having the boat registered and having life jackets is important.
Another measure to take is sober operation of a watercraft.
Torbert stresses having a designated operator if there will be alcohol on the watercraft.
