Michigan winter wheat condition rating improves

February was cold and wet in much of Michigan.

The USDA says that was a big contrast to January conditions, with the average statewide temperature dropping to 13 degrees, with slightly higher than normal precipitation, most of that in the form of snow.

That snow did insulate much of Michigan’s winter wheat crop, with 67% now rated good to excellent, up 9% on the month, but is a concern in areas without adequate cover.
