The condition rating for Missouri’s winter wheat crop improved during February, even as bitterly cold temperatures and heavy snow blanketed the state late in the month.
The USDA says 54% of the state’s winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent, up 5% on the month, with more than a quarter of the state now reporting surplus topsoil moisture.
Precipitation was a half an inch below normal, but most of that was snow and much colder than usual temperatures limited evaporation.
