Ohio g/e wheat rating holds despite temperatures

Ohio was colder than normal during February, but higher than normal precipitation, mostly snow, helped insulate winter wheat.

The USDA says snow depth topped four inches in parts of Ohio and 71% of the state’s winter wheat crop is in good to excellent condition, steady with January despite subzero temperatures in some areas, and 28% is called fair, up 2%.

Soil moisture levels improved, with a surplus being reported in nearly half of the state’s topsoil and about a third of subsoil.
